TEENAGE Hayes boxer Billy Allington is gunning for glory at the London Junior AVA final this Saturday.
The 17-year-old is through to the grand final at Dagenham Park School after triumphing in the Northwest Division at Hayes Boxing Club on April 5.
Light-welterweight Allington defeated Ricky Carr after four frenetic two-minute rounds, with his speed outwitting the south-paw from Ruislip to confirm his place for this Saturday’s main event.
Allington’s coach Steve South was delighted with his boxer’s performance and is backing him to be a knockout in Dagenham.
He said: “It was a cagey first round. Billy had beaten this lad before but he was working the jab before using his combinations. Ricky fought back in the third round but it was Billy’s fitness that pulled him through in the last round. He was a bit fitter and faster so he got the decision.
“There are some good boxers in the London area. I know there is a particularly good fighter from West Ham that he could potentially have to box. Billy is an experienced fighter as well, he’s been boxing for quite a long time now. He has a lot of potential.
“There are four divisions - North East, North West, South East, South West. In the final there will be two semi-finals and a grand final. London and Northwest England are the two strongest boxing areas in the country, so if you win the London final you’ve got a good chance of winning the national title.”
