O'Meara eases to third win

STEVE O'Meara made it three wins out of three in his professional career with a straightforward unanimous points victory over Billy Smith.

Smith has a history as a journeyman pro capable of causing the odd upset but O'Meara had no trouble in disposing of him over four rounds, on the undercard of the Lee Meager versus John Murray British title fight at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan on Friday.

"I cruised it really," said the West Drayton man. "I won every round comfortably and didn't get hit very much at all."

The fight was the first since O'Meara, 24, signed a three-year deal with Hennessy Sports which guarantees him six fights a year and probably a lot more, with more television exposure to boot. Boxing takes a break in August so O'Meara is likely to be back in action in September. ..
