Northwood 0 Wealdstone 3
NORTHWOOD suffered their first defeat of the preseason as they were soundly beaten 3-0 at home in a friendly against Wealdstone last Tuesday night.
All three goals came in the first half as the visitors romped out to an early lead.
It took just seven minutes for the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central side to concede against their higher tier opposition, as former Woods striker Peter Dean connected on a cross.
Northwood came near to a quick equaliser as Dean Worman saw his shot go close in the 12th minute, but then found the deficit doubled nine minutes later.
This time it was another ex-Woods star, Scott Fitzgerald, who found his name on the scoresheet, slotting home from 15 yards after James Reading could only parry a long-range shot into his path.
Fitzgerald found the net again two minutes later when Reading could again only parry a strong shot back into the path of an attacker, whose cross found Fitzgerald to make the lead safe.
Going into the break 3-0 down, Gary Meakin's side returned for the second period looking livelier.
Lee Grant sent in a tantalising cross from the right flank 11 minutes into the second period which found Oliver Hawkins, who smashed the ball against the post in the hosts' best chance of the match.
Six minutes later it was Adamson Ajayi's turn to be denied by the woodwork after a nifty run past the Wealdstone right back.
But as the rain fell, the football turned sloppy as Wealdstone sat back on a comfortable lead and the Chestnut Avenue side never looked like getting back into the contest.
