United beaten in Thurrock shoot out

Hayes and Yeading United went out of the Setanta Shield after a dramatic penalty shoot out at Thurrock last night (Tuesday).

After the match finished 3-3 following extra time United finally lost the second round tie 5-4 on penalties against their Blue Square Conference South rivals.

Thurrock shocked United by racing into a 2-0 lead inside the first 33 minutes before Josh Scott pulled a goal back from the penalty spot for Garry Haylock's side.

Scott Fitzgerald then put United on level terms in the 87th minute and in a dramatic finish Thurrock regained the lead only for Scott to net a second penalty in the dying seconds of normal time.

Extra time produced no further goals as both sides tired and it was Thurrock who finally won through after the penalty shoot out.
