Fears for village's shops

A SCHEME to turn an empty Englefield Green shop into four one-bedroom flats has angered residents who say their village centre is being killed off.

Runnymede Council planning officers have recommended permission is given to convert the Harvest Road property, to the dis-belief of protesters, who say the site is far too small and the village needs all its shops.

Kevin Barry, who lives in Bond Street, said: "It's the usual sad tale of Englefield Green when another shop closes and is developed.

"We are being developed to death.

"We used to have everything - a bank, butchers, greengrocers. Our village centre is being closed down."
