Captain Smith returns at Uxbridge

South African captain Graeme Smith made his return from injury on the opening day of the tour match with Middlesex at Uxbridge's Park Road ground.

Smith tore a hamstring while playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and his return to the side comes just under a week before the first Test at Lord's.

The South Africans won the toss and decided to bat on a glorious day at Uxbridge although they soon lost opener Neil McKenzie to the bowling of Burton as Middlesex included Englabnd opener Andrew Strauss in their side.

The match continues on Saturday and Sunday at Park Road, with a 11am start.
