Hayes & Yeading 2-1 Basingstoke Town
LAST-GASP Tom Collins smashed in his second goal in as many games to snatch victory for Hayes & Yeading against Basingstoke Town.
Collins netted on his United return at the weekend against Truro and followed that up by nicking the points for hosts at the death on Tuesday night.
Alassane N’Diaye put Hayes & Yeading ahead before Delano Sam-Yorke grabbed an equaliser and on-loan Stockport striker Collins stole in for the winner.
The return of Collins, on a month’s loan from County, has given United a much needed boost in the wake of manager Nas Bashir’s recent departure, with his goals catapulting the side six points clear of the drop zone.
He almost made an immediate impact on his second outing but was denied a 4th minute penalty after being brought down in the box as he bore down on goal.
N’Diaye came agonisingly close as he rose to meet Luke Williams’ pinpoint cross for a free-header inside the six-yard box, but somehow blazed his effort wide.
But N’Diaye’s persistence would soon pay dividends as the former Barnet man seized upon some sloppy defending to bundle home a deflected effort in the 54th.
Basingstoke replied with a goal of their own as Sam-Yorke bounded down the left channel before smashing a powerful drive beyond goalkeeper Brandon Hall at his near post.
However, as the clash looked certain to plateau into a frustrating draw for the hosts, the imperious Collins secured the much-need points, curling a fine effort beyond the outstretched keeper with unerring accuracy in the 89th minute.
Meanwhile, AFC Hayes home clash against Burnham and Harefield United’s away match at Tring Athletic were both postponed, whilst Northwood’s fixture at Slough Town has been re-scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday).
