ADAM Bygrave is set to make a controversial return to Hayes and Yeading.
The former Reading youngster left United in summer 2011 to follow Garry Haylock at Farnborough.
Bygrave proved a hit there but was sacked by the club at the end of August for inappropriate comments made on Facebook.
He was also fined the maximum two weeks’ wages after admitting making racist, disabled and paedophile-based comments on the social networking site.
The defender has since issued a public apology and expressed deep regret for his error as well as his determination to redeem himself.
United boss Nas Bashir is now ready to offer the defender that chance for redemption and insists he can vouch for the character of a player he has known for many years.
“I’ve known Adam since he was 15,” explained Bashir, who worked with Bygrave at Reading. “I’m not sure what he was supposed to have said or done but I know him as a player and he can definitely play in this league. He has played for Hayes before and was a good servant and hopefully we can get him playing again. Adam has played a lot of games with Tom Cadmore so that can only be a good thing as well.
“I’m not going to delve into what was supposed to have been said. Players do make mistakes, particularly with things like Facebook and Twitter, and as long as he respects what we have got at our club, it will be fine. He was respectful to the players and staff when he was here before so we haven’t got a problem with him.”
Bygrave has been training with United but a deal for the defender is not expected to be completed for a few weeks as the Gazette understands he has loose ends to tie up first.
“We are in a good position with the group we have at the moment and can certainly see this team making the play-offs,” added Bashir. “There is nobody in this league that we are fearful of and if we can keep adding to the group, we’ll progress. We are always looking to improve.”
Bashir will move Calum Butcher into central defence at Eastleigh in place of the suspended Cadmore, and Yassin Moutaouakil will start at right back.
