GARRY Haylock is weighing up a move to bring Ed Harris back for a second spell at Hayes & Yeading.
Boss Haylock confirmed that he made an enquiry for the AFC Wimbledon defender and Dons manager Terry Brown is now willing to send him out on loan with fellow centre-back Ismail Yakubu's return from injury.
The availability of Harris has left Haylock with something of a dilemma as he was desperate to sign a centre-back two weeks ago, but since then Hayes & Yeading have kept two clean sheets in three games.
A loan deal to sign Crystal Palace youngster Jack Holland fell through recently, but Haylock admitted that he is tempted to bring Harris back.
“It is a possibility, we like Ed and he is a great lad,” said Haylock. “I do not know as the finances have to be right. I would like to freshen the squad up but I have to operate within a budget. We do not have financial problems, but I have to work to the budget, sometimes you can juggle it around.”
Harris himself is keen on a return to Church Road after falling down the pecking order at AFC Wimbledon.
“I would not rule it out, but we will have to see,” he said. “It is in the early stages of everything though. If I am not playing then I want to go out on loan and it is probably better for me to go out for a month and get some games.”
Hayes & Yeading head into Saturday's home match against York City in confident mood after they finally moved out of the relegation zone by beating Southport.
And Haylock says his pursuit of a defender may have had an impact on Hayes & Yeading's recent improvement at the back.
“Maybe the fact that they know I have been trying to bring someone in has made people step up their games,” he added. “We have worked very hard on it and sometimes you might spend two or three weeks working on it and it does not click until the end of that spell.
“It was a big win for us (against Southport), but at this stage of the season any three points we will take them. We have done something that we have not done in the past by beating teams around us.”
