HAYES & Yeading are set to announce the signing of a defender who was once tasked with keeping Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney at bay.
Former Charlton Athletic youngster Osei Sankofa has been training with the club this week and United are understood to have completed a deal for the 27-year-old.
Sankofa, most recently with United’s Blue Square South rivals Eastleigh, can play anywhere across the back-four and would offer versatility in defence.
He was weighing up offers from several other clubs at the start of the week but United look to have secured their man in time for this weekend’s league fixture.
Sankofa made his Premier League debut with the Addicks in a 4-1 defeat to the Red Devils in May 2003, facing the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy and David Beckham.
He was tasked with caging Rooney in February 2007 as he endured another unhappy day at Old Trafford, this time suffering a 2-0 defeat.
Many of United’s stars are set to be put through their paces in tonight’s (Wednesday’s) reserve fixture with St Albans following the Truro defeat at the weekend.
Reserve boss Delroy Preddy is expected to field a strong side as some of the team’s underperforming players get a run out prior to the Sutton clash.
