Chelmsford City 6-2 Hayes & Yeading
HAYES & Yeading's play-off hopes continued to slip away after they were hit for six by Chelmsford City this afternoon.
It was a disastrous day for Nas Bashir's side who had Jamie Hand sent off in the first-half and could not take advantage of Chelmsford playing 80 minutes with an outfield player in goal.
City lost keeper Stuart Searle on eight minutes as the shot-stopper was rushed to hospital with a suspected broken leg, although scans have since revealed there was no fracture.
It meant midfielder Anthony Cook was forced to play between the sticks but the ball was soon in the net at the other end as Omer Riza's shot struck the bar and Jamie Slabber tapped in the rebound.
United were not behind for long when Chelmsford were penalised for handball and former Luton Town man Hand stepped up to convert the penalty.
Eight minutes later and the hosts were back in front as the referee again pointed to the spot and allowed Slabber to grab his second of the afternoon.
Hand's dismissal for two bookable offences in stoppage time brought a disappointing first-half to an end but few could of imagined the horror show that was to follow after interval.
Kyle Vassell made it 3-1 as the clock ticked past the hour before Slabber claimed his hat-trick and Vassell then scored his fifth in four games to make it five for the hosts.
Ex-Arsenal youngster Omer Riza smashed in a sixth with nine minutes remaining as Bashir cut a frustrated figure on the touchline.
Braithwaite snatched a late consolation for United but there was nothing for Hayes & Yeading to celebrate at Melbourne Stadium.
