Yorke plots FA Cup giant-killing

NORTHWOOD skipper Reece Yorke is plotting another giant-killing as his side prepare to take on Boreham Wood in the FA Cup third qualifying round tomorrow.

The Wood have already pulled off one shock in this season’s campaign, putting out Southern Premier outfit Chesham United in the first qualifying round.

And having avoided a banana skin of their own by dispatching Spartan South Midlands side AFC Dunstable in a replay last Tuesday, Yorke now has the Blue Square South high-fliers in his sights.

“Chesham underestimated us, and if Boreham Wood do the same, it will be a big mistake,” said the former Barnet, Wealdstone and St Albans defender.

“We’re as good as them, and we can do it again.

“We’re buzzing, and if you can’t get yourself up for the FA Cup with the big ties so close, when can you?

“We should have finished the job against Dunstable in the first game, but the gaffer warned us not to be victims of a giant-killing ourselves in the replay, and we were determined not to.

“We approach every game the same, if the opponents are in a league below us or above us, and if we play to our strengths we will have a great chance.”

Right back Scott Rader gave Northwood a 15th-minute lead at Dunstable after a Ryan Phillips free kick caused confusion in the home box, before Adamson Ajayi doubled their advantage with a shot from the right hand edge of the area on 63 minutes.

Romayne Walker then had a penalty saved after being chopped down himself in the area, but Ajayi wrapped up a 3-0 win with his second, a free header from Dean Worman’s cross, with two minutes remaining.

“It’s been coming for Adamson – he’s been on fire for us,” added former England Schoolboys international Reece.

“With Romayne, it was just one of those penalties where the keeper guesses the right way, but I would back him 100 per cent to take our next one and score.”
