Hayes & Yeading 2-3 Salisbury City
HAYES & Yeading were unable to upset the odds against Blue Square South league leaders Salisbury City this afternoon.
United conceded three times in the opening 45 minutes before a Luke Williams stunner gave them a way back into the match.
And despite City playing 10-men for the whole of the second period, the hosts failed to capitalise and left Kingfield empty handed.
Jamie White gave the visitors an early lead after the United defence failed to deal with a long ball pumped forward from the back.
The Salisbury man got his and the away side's second as he tapped home from close range to give the hosts a mountain to climb.
A stunning strike from Robbie Matthews made it three as the Hayes & Yeading fans braced themselves for more.
But a superb Williams effort after some good United build-up play gave the home crowd a glimmer of hope on 37 minutes.
And just before the break their hopes were boosted further as Williams went down after an elbow from Dan Flitchett and the striker was given his marching orders.
With the table-toppers down to 10-men, Nas Bashir's side trotted out for the second period with a realistic chance of taking at least a point from the match at Kingfield.
Kudus Oyenuga slotted home a last-minute penalty to cap off a battling second-half performance but it came too late for United who ran out of time in their search for an equaliser.
