Team GB 14 Croatia 37
THERE was to be no final day win for Team GB but it was an afternoon to remember for Hillingdon’s Kelsi Fairbrother.
The handball star top scored for the Brits in their 37-14 defeat to high-flying Croatia in their final Group A match at London 2012.
Fairbrother netted three times for GB with a chance conversion rate of 60 per cent to end her Olympic Games on a high at the Copper Box today.
Team GB have failed to win a game in the group stage of the tournament and will go no further after finished bottom of the standings behind fifth-placed Angola.
But while they may not have found the winning formula in London, Fairbrother and her team-mates have won the hearts of the nation with their efforts in the competition.
Handball has been warmly received by the British nation and the sport is expected to go from strength to strength in the coming years as people take inspiration from the British players.
