Great Britain 19 Montenegro 31
KELSI Fairbrother and Team GB suffered an Olympic debut defeat at the hands of a strong Montenegro side this evening.
The 22-year-old former Ruislip Eagles star and her team-mates put up a fight at the Copper Box arena but went down 31-19 to one of the favourites for the gold.
Kathryn Fudge made history by opening GB’s account after just four minutes before going on to notch three more times in the first half.
Marie Gerbron did not deserve to be on the losing side as she netted six times, with GB keeper Jane Mayes also pulling off a series of fine saves.
Fairbrother and the Team GB squad will face another European giant, Russia, on Monday as they continue their quest to qualify from Group A.
The Team GB handball team was set up in 2005 after London won the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
