HAYES & Yeading's rejuvenated striker Elliott Buchanan says the return of on-loan signing Ben Wright has provided the catalyst for his red-hot recent form.
Buchanan's hat-trick against Rushden & Diamonds last night made him Hayes & Yeading's top league scorer this season and he has now targeted 15 league goals to keep his side in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
The 22-year-old ex-Stevenage Borough striker endured a difficult start after his summer switch from Slough Town, but things couldn't be more different now with five goals in two games.
“It was fantastic for me to get a hat-trick after the last game – it is definitely my best feat at this level,” he said.
“It is down to confidence, but obviously Ben coming in has made a difference,” he added. “I played with him at the start of the season and in pre-season and we enjoyed playing together. It is a combination of that, the new system we are playing, and full-time football.”
Buchanan added that his side's surrender of the three points after being 3-0 up against Justin Edinburgh's men had taken the shine off his achievement.
“It is just a shame that we could not go on and win and I am a bit disappointed with that.
“All the boys were a bit down afterwards after being 3-0 up and it was not the best feeling in the dressing room.
“We know it will be hard for us, but we just need to keep battling. Maybe I can now get 15 goals, I would be happy with that as the more goals I get then the more chance we have of staying up.”
