THE Hayes school of a "lovely, popular and bright" student who tragically died whilst on a ski trip in Italy last week have set up a remembrance web page.
Poonam Bhattal, 13, reportedly fell 20 feet from a chair lift in the Italian resort of Claviere during a morning ski school lesson last Friday morning (February 22).
She died on her way to hospital.
Poonam, from Slough, was on a trip with around 30 classmates from the Guru Nanak Sikh Academy, located in Springfield Road, Hayes.
The academy, returning from the half term break, held a extended assembly in honour of Poonam this morning (Monday), and has set up a tributes page, inviting friends to post messages.
The academy's website reads: "We can all celebrate her life and remember the joy that she brought into our lives. She will remain vividly in our memories and our thoughts are with her and her family at this difficult time."
Friends of the teenager have already been on Twitter paying their respects.
Details of the funeral will be posted on the page. Poonam's family, who travelled to Italy upon hearing the tragic news, are expected to issue a statement about the tragedy this week.
The academy said immediately after the accident that everyone on the trip was "devastated by the death of an absolutely lovely student."
The holiday was being led by a vice principal who had accompanied students on 28 of the annual trips in the past, and was 'obsessive about security and safety.'
School ski trip operator Skibound, who the party travelled with, said that the Italian authorities had launched a full investigation into the incident.
