police drink driving
The anti-drink drive and drug driving enforcement campaign is now in full swing and drivers in the borough will be targeted by police at all times of day.
A police spokesman said that this year's campaign has broken through the stereotype that drink driving is a night time issue. More people have failed breath tests between 6-11am than between 11pm-1am, and consequently police will be out on patrol at all times of the day.
"Drinking the night before impairs driving, makes you unfit to drive and can put you over the limit,”said Traffic Chief Inspector Nick Hancock.
"Anyone behind the wheel, be it with an early morning hangover, individuals who drive home after drinks at work, as well as people returning from nightclubs and bars will be targeted in this year's campaign"
Motorists also run the risk of being tested for drug impairment.
So far this year 1,230 people have already been arrested in London on suspicion of drink driving and this years 'all hour' enforcement push is expected to yield more arrests than the 2011 and 2010 campaigns.
