A CAMPAIGN calling for cleaner air in the south of the borough has been launched.
Hayes and Harlington MP John McDonnell is calling for more to be done to improve the quality of the air in Hayes, West Drayton and Heathrow Villages, which is one of the most polluted environments in the country because of the combined effects of the airport, and the surrounding motorways and congested roads.
The introductory meeting was held on Thursday last week at Botwell Church hall, in Botwell Lane, and was led by Simon Birkett, the founder of the cross-party pollution pressure group, the Campaign for Clean Air in London.
Mr McDonnell said: “We are launching this campaign to highlight the threat to local people’s health from air pollution and to work with the council, the GLA and government to tackle this quiet killer.
“We have already met with the local air pollution experts at Hillingdon council and will be working with them to produce a programme of local policies to address this problem and an agenda of issues to campaign on at the national level.”
Do you think more needs to be done to protect the environment in Hillingdon? Have you fallen ill because of the air quality?
