A FAMILY pub in the heart of Hayes town has scooped a prestigious nationwide company award.
The Botwell Inn, in Coldharbour Lane, Hayes, beat hundreds of venues across the country to be named Community and Environmental Pub of the Year by J D Wetherspoon, the chain which owns it. Gemma Bond, Botwell Inn manager, picked up the accolade at an award ceremony on Wednesday last week.
Miss Bond, who started at the pub nine years ago, said: “It was a total surprise. It’s the biggest achievement in my career so far, but it’s down to the whole team really.”
The 27-year-old has juggled her role with studying for a diploma in business and retail management at Leeds Metropolitan University.
She co-managed the pub before taking up the reins by herself in February.
The pub, which was also nominated in the Quality Pub of the Year category, has a five-star food rating.
