EVERYONE likely to be affected by gas mains work along Joel Street can visit a roadshow for more information.
National Grid will park its information bus in the street - the main route from Eastcote to Northwood Hills, on November 20 and 21.
More than a kilometre of pipe needs to be replaced, and work will start right after the new year. National Grid will require some parking bay suspension and traffic control with temporary lights.
Some homeowners will also lose supply for a short time - with advance notice - while the supply pipe to their property is replaced.
Project Engineer Graham Huggett explained: “It’s National Grid’s job to connect people to the energy supplies they use and our work will help ensure the people of Hillingdon continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for heating and cooking.”
Where possible, the new mains will also be inserted into the old ones to reduce the need for large scale digging.
Work, in three phases, starts on January 7 and runs until April 2013.
Phase 1: Joel Street, from the junction of Colchester Road to outside 64 Joel Street
Phase 2: Junction of Briarwood Road and to outside 51 Joel Street. For technical reasons trenches will need to be dug to lay the mains here.
Phase 3: Railway bridge opposite the Northwood Hills Hotel to the junction of Tolcarne Drive.
The bus will be in Joel Street on both days from 9am-3.30pm.
