A PASSIONATE campaigner against litter has taken London Underground to court for the second time.
Last year, Peter Silverman won court costs of £200 from LU after it failed to clean up a patch of land opposite Ruislip Manor Tube station, in Victoria Road.
Mr Silverman, of Kingsend, Ruislip, has again taken out a litter abatement order against LU for a parcel of land opposite the station, and behind a bus stop.
He said: “That little spot of land is always filled with rubbish. Last year I focussed on the embankment next to stairs by the pub, but this time I’ve focussed on that spot.
“It’s a big task doing it, really it is up to the local authorities – and London Underground, and the Highways Agency – to make sure that streets are kept clean.
“They keep their stations very clean, London Underground, but they just don’t do the other bits.”
Speaking before the hearing, he said: “They just never seem to clean [the land]. I practically had to stand over them until they cleared the litter last year.”
Mr Silverman expected to win costs again at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
“My main concern is getting my court costs covered because it can be between £12,000 and £15,000 if I don’t win the case,” he said.
