police memorial ride
FIVE Hillingdon police officers are getting on their bikes in memory of two of their colleagues.
PCs Damian Goddard-Lane, Wes Green, Tony Walsh, Mark Sanna and Lorraine Jones, of Hillingdon Police Partnership Tasking Team, will ride nearly 200 miles from London to Manchester in November.
They are raising money for the North West Police Benevolent Fund, in memory of PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes, who were killed after responding to a call in Greater Manchester on September 18.
The ride is expected to take five days and at the end the group will hand over a cheque to representatives of the fund.
PC Green, who had the idea for doing the ride, said: “We are aiming to raise over £5,000 for the benevolent fund.
“After completing the 190-mile journey, we are hoping to carry out a tour of duty in honour of the officers with their team-mates, before returning to Hillingdon.”
Hillingdon’s borough commander, Steve Kershaw, said: “We are saddened with what has happened and our thoughts remain with [the dead women’s] families, friends and colleagues. I fully support the efforts of my officers in this charitable deed and I wish them success in their endeavour.”
