In a move that would not look out of place in the TV satire 'The Thick of It', HS2 Ltd and the Department for Transport (DfT) have been nominated for an award honouring their 'analysis and use of evidence'.
The nomination, in the Civil Service Awards 2012, comes as they face a judicial review over lost consultations and a day after admitting that further consultations were ignored.
Stop HS2 campaigner Joe Rukin said the news was "unbelievable".
He said: "You could not make this up.
"The day after DfT was forced to admit that more than 700 consultations were not analysed they have been nominated for this award.
"If these are the best of the best no wonder the country is in such a mess.
"It is right out of The Thick of It."
The pair have been nominated in The Analysis and use of Evidence Award in the awards.
