CANCER survivor Steve Darke is due to carry the Olympic torch shortly after 2pm today between Lake Farm and Dawley Parade, Hayes.
Mr Darke, 52, was cut out a car after a serious accident in Dawley Parade in 1997.
He said: “Of all the places they could have chosen for me to carry it, I end up there.
“It’s a road I usually try to avoid, so in a way I’m glad I’m going back there to do this.
“It’s like I’ve come full circle.”
Mr Darke, from Harefield, was nominated after writing a book following a battle with oesophageal cancer.
He is among dozens of people in the borough who will carry the torch aloft today, as well as music producer Mark Ronson, singer songwriter Katy B and cricket legend Michael Vaughan.
