THE owners of a 13-storey office block that has been empty for more than 15 years have failed in their latest bid to bring it back into use.
Hillingdon Council denied permission to allow an adult education centre on two floors of Hayes Gate House, in Uxbridge Road, once the Heathrow Gate Hotel.
Neighbours had sent letters of objection, and drew up a petition against the proposals.
The building is owned by Dr Avtar Lit, chairman of the Litt Corporation and head of the Southall-based Sunrise Radio Group, a broadcasting company serving Asian communities in London and across the country.
The proposed centre would have offered media training, and be open only on weekends.
The application was made in May 2010, but a decision was deferred while council officers sought more information on the courses that would be offered.
They received no reply from the applicants, and the plan was subsequently refused at a planning committee meeting last month.
The recently refurbished block, which suffered extensive vandalism, has planning approval for a hotel and conference centre. Its owners want to look again at those plans when the economy starts to recover.
