THERE is one less reason to dread that reminder dropping through the letter box – one lucky person could win £25,000 when they pay their council tax.
The Hillingdon Council, along with 17 other local authorities, has teamed up with Bacs Payment Schemes, the organisation behind the direct debit system, to offer people the chance of scooping the tidy sum. To enter, people must register to pay their council tax bill by direct debit before 5pm on July 12.
They can simply return a completed paper direct debit instruction to the council, sign up to direct debit on the council’s website www.hillingdon.gov.uk or give them a call to set up a direct debit over the phone 0300 1231384.
People who already pay their council tax bill by direct debit will be automatically entered into the prize draw.
Councillor Jonathan Bianco, cabinet member for business services, said: “Direct debit is a much cheaper way for us to process payments and the money we save can be used for the benefit of local residents.
“Council tax bills were delivered in March and we’re encouraging as many people as possible to look out for the prize draw information included, switch to direct debit and be in with the chance of winning the £25,000.”
