Burst Uxbridge water main on hosepipe ban day

Burst water main 2

A water main burst in Windsor Street, Uxbridge, on Thursday, sending thousands of gallons of water gushing down the road.

The mishap comes on the same day Veolia Water implemented a hosepipe ban in the area to try to conserve water after a prolonged drought.

The burst appeared to have happened under the pavement close to The Queen's Head pub at about 3pm.

Water was pouring down Windsor Street and pooling in one of the lanes of Cross Street at the Mahjack's Roundabout.

Graeme Mitchell, manager at Barnard's Bookshop where the leak was almost spilling on to the doorstep, said: "I rang Veolia but they didn't seem to be particularly bothered."

Engineers were on site by about 5pm.
