PLANS to build a Lidl store close to the borough's biggest town centre have been rejected by councillors.
The budget supermarket wanted to build on the site of an old Peugeot garage in Cowley Road, Uxbridge.
At a meeting held at Hillingdon Civic Centre last Tuesday, it was decided to reject the proposals on traffic grounds.
Campaigner Mic Singh, who runs G & T News in Cowley Road, said: "I am glad it got thrown out. They could come back, they could not, but we will fight them if they do.
"We had 300 signatures on a petition against it.
"They said they were confident a lot of students would use the store, but there would still be so much traffic.
"Business is tough at the moment it is quiet already, if Lidl came here we would struggle to survive."
