Conservative councillor for Ickenham, John Hensley
A WARD councillor has spoken out to protect his community from assertions the area is magnet for crime.
The Gazette last week featured a CCTV initiative backed by a section of the community in Ickenham to protect themselves from burglars.
But Conservative councillor for the area, John Hensley, who sits on the ward crime prevention panel for Ickenham, believes the activity wrongly projected the message that the village is a crime hotspot.
He said: "Ickenham is a safe ward, the safest in Hillingdon. We have worked very hard, through the crime prevention panel and in partnership with the police, to drive down crime figures, especially burglaries, which were a bigger problem around two years ago."
There were eight burglaries in Ickenham in April, the month for which figures are most recently available, which compares favourably with Uxbridge South (22), Brunel (21), Yiewsley (22), and West Drayton (17).
Ickenham's police team will next hold their drop-in surgery at Ickenham Library, in Community Close, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm on June 18.
