THE cyclist who died in a collision on the A40 was RAF Northolt Station Commander Tom Barrett
The accident took place at 5.05pm last night (Thursday) opposite RAF Northolt when he collided with a white transit van.
Barrett, 44, had been in post for around two years at RAF Northolt and was a well-known figure across the borough. An investigation into the circumstances of his death are ongoing, but the driver of the van stopped at the scene and has not been arrested.
An RAF Spokesman said: "It is with great sadness that we must confirm the death of Group Captain Tom Barrett, Station Commander, RAF Northolt, in a road traffic collision last night. His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."
A friend said: "He made a great difference and he was very well liked. He was friendly and very well on top of his job. His wife will be devastated."
Any witnesses who saw the collision, or any of the events before, should call the Met Police's Road Death Investigation Unit on 020 8998 5319.
