FOUR fire crews battled a blaze at an abandoned pub yesterday (14) afternoon.
Fire broke out at the Blue Anchor pub, in Printing House Lane, Hayes, at around 4.30pm.
Twenty firefighters from Hayes and Hillingdon stations arrived at the scene.
The fire raged for over an hour, and was brought under control just after 5.30pm.
Half of the first floor was damaged, but no one was hurt. The cause is under investigation.
The pub has been vacant since 2008, and having fallen into a state of disrepair, there have been increasing fears over the safety of the building.
The council subsequently ordered the owners to secure the property in April, but the site continued to have problems with break-ins and vandalism.
Martin Green, Fire Safety team leader for Hillingdon and Hounslow, told the Gazette in June that it was an 'environmental hazard' that potentially put people's lives at risk.
The site is currently on the market for £700,000.
