FRIENDS and ex-colleagues of a drummer who performed with the likes of Led Zeppelin have organised a fundraising night for him.

Mac Poole, who lives in South Ruislip, has cancer, and fellow musician Gavin Barnett arranged the benefit gig.

Bands will take to the stage at Earlsmead Stadium on Friday - the home of Harrow Borough FC - in Earlsmead, South Harrow, from 8pm.

Mr Barnett said: "He's played with Led Zeppelin and he was with them before they were famous.

"I've known Mac for 30-odd years and he had throat cancer before, about 14 years ago, and all of a sudden it returned and he's got cancer of the lung and it's gone to his brain now, and he's having chemotherapy.

"He's losing a lot of drumming work, he has a wife, two sons and a mortgage and it's not easy.

"We want to do whatever we can to help." Mr Barnett has invited lots of Mac's old band-mates and pals to attend the event.

"They're coming from everywhere," he said. "It's one massive jam for people to get together and, if he feels up for it, he may get up and play a couple of numbers."

Tickets will be £8 on the door.
