AN ANNUAL award given to those dedicated to their community has been given to a respected husband and wife duo.
The Swakeley's Shield, awarded by the Ickenham Festival Committee was presented to Pam and Doug Jeffrey's for their tireless work in protecting the village's conservation area.
Mrs Jeffrey's said: "I am overwhelmed. I’m not sure that Doug and I are deserving of this wonderful tribute because what we do is very much a group effort.
"What we try to achieve for Ickenham, which is the best place I’ve ever lived in, is a labour of love, not work.
"We’d like to thank the Committee for recognising us in this way and also everyone who has worked with us in helping to protect the village from becoming urbanised."
The pair have fought endlessly to protect and improve the village since Pam was appointed chair of the Ickenham Conservation Panel in 2002.
Despite full-time employment, she also finds time to work alongside Hillingdon Council with regards to planning applications, and husband Doug offers instrumental behind the scenes support, and they are the 23rd recipients of the award.
