Merchant Taylors' School GCSE results
STUDENTS at Merchant Taylors' 'surpassed expectations', achieving the second highest percentage of A and A* grades in the school's history.
Just over 90 per cent of papers marked were awarded A* and A grades, and 64.98 per cent were given an A*. Ninety nine per cent got five or more A*-C passes.
Of the 150 boys taking their exams at the school, one fifth achieved 10 A*s, and 42 per cent gained 8 A*s or more.
Half of the GCSE maths students took the paper a year early, and they all received A*s.
Headteacher Steven Wright said of the results: "Given that these results were achieved after the introduction of the much harder IGCSE for Science they are in many ways remarkable – probably the best ever if taken in context – and were achieved by a year group with an enviable sporting reputation and where a wide extra-curricular contribution is the norm.
"We are delighted for all the boys – especially as they worked so hard to surpass expectations."
